For the week of July 10, 2010, "Love the Way You Lie" made its first chart appearance, debuting on the US Billboard Hot 100 at number two. The song also debuted at number one on the Billboard Digital Songs chart, selling 338,000 downloads in its first week. The song topped the chart without the benefit of a video, becoming Eminem's fourth Hot 100 number one following "Not Afraid". For Rihanna, the track became her seventh number one since the start of her career in 2005. Also in the fourth week, the song rose from number 13 to eight on the Billboard Pop Songs chart, becoming Eminem's ninth and Rihanna's fifteenth top ten on that chart. The song was atop the Digital Songs chart for six consecutive weeks, before falling off the top spot for one week. For the chart week of August 28, 2010, the song regained its number one position again on the chart, selling 254,000 copies for the week.In its latest week it sold 207,000 digital copies. In the week of August 14, 2010, the song made US digital chart history after selling 300,000 digital copies or more of the single for five consecutive weeks. The artist collaborated with songwriter Sean Garrett to put together her new album, and, according to Garrett, fans should expect to hear a much more light-hearted tone on her new album. "I can definitely say that her album is definitely gonna be way more exciting, happy," Garrett told MTV News. "I hope she doesn't mind me saying this. I love Rihanna. She's fun, she's like a sister, and I tend to think she doesn't really take herself too seriously. And I think that's what this album is gonna be about."
Garrett went on to point out that ever since the Chris Brown assault, Rihanna's life has taken a dramatic turn for the serious. With 'Loud,' though, the songwriter says fans should expect to hear something "very positive and very explosive. Heavy in the club."
MTV also reports that famed French producer David Guetta wants to collaborate with Rihanna, and would like to add his own dance club touch to her trademark sound. "Well, you know, I'm a DJ, so I make beats that make you want to dance," Guetta explains. "And I think she was one of the first to do that in that urban world, so you know, I think it would be good for her to do it again."
Although Rihanna hasn't released an official tracklist for 'Loud,' she has released 'Only Girl (In the World)' -- the first single off of her fifth studio album. As we found out when we listened to the new song, Rihanna has definitely taken a more upbeat tone with this Stargate-produced track, and seems to have returned to her dance music roots. Based on this single, then, Rihanna fans should expect to hear a much more effervescent new album this fall.
